Why I coach this way

I've been coaching baseball since I was 14. Boys walk into introductory sessions with fire in their eyes and desires in their hearts. They tell me they want to be great, and they seem to mean it. I believe every one of them, and then their actions tell the actual story.

I've spent years at Throwdown Academy training middle-school players with the intention of preparing them for varsity baseball in South Orange County. Training the same boys daily, over seasons, gives you a feedback loop most coaches never get: you find out what actually moves a player and what only looks good. It wasn't the most talented who grew the most. It was the ones who kept showing up for the boring part.

Here's what I stopped being willing to leave unsaid. As a boy's skill level improves, his capacity to continue to evolve his game is built in the weight room. Greatness has a price most people don't mention out loud: you have to be willing to train your body. Skill work alone won't do it. A boy who wants to hit the ball harder, throw harder, and stay healthy has to get stronger, faster, and more mobile, and that happens in a weight room, with a trainer who knows what he's doing.

So I built the program around that truth instead of around a schedule.

Here's how it works. I watch your son move. Every session I'm reading his ability to move and hold his balance: where he leaks power, where he's tight, what his body won't let him do yet. I hand those observations to his strength coach, and he shapes the speed, power, strength, and mobility work around exactly that. As your son changes, the program adapts with him and his needs.

Two coaches, one plan. Built for your boy, adjusted every month.

If he says he wants greatness, this is what it actually asks of him.

Coach Jorge Araiza
Both Halves of the Work

The mind and the body.

The mental game
Coach Jorge's knowledge of baseball is excellent, and he knows how to teach players to stay mentally strong when things aren't going their way. Those lessons are invaluable, not just for baseball, but for the challenges players will face on and off the field.

Training the body
In recent years he's helping me get back into shape by creating a workout and diet plan for me. Jorge is someone you want on your team… he motivates you, picks you up when you’re down, and wants you to succeed in life regardless of what you do.

Questions

What parents ask.

Who is this program for?

Baseball players 12 and up. Starting November 1, this is how Coach Jorge trains players in that age group. Players 11 and under can still book baseball-only private coaching on the Programs page.

What's the difference between Weekly Clinic and Skill Training?

Weekly Clinic is group training: one 90-minute clinic a week with up to six players, rotating between offense and defense, and you can go month to month. Skill Training is private: one-on-one lessons with Coach Jorge, with a 5-month commitment. Both include strength training at the gym.

How does Skill Training billing work?

Skill Training runs 5 months. You make 4 monthly payments, and month 5 is already paid for. For example, Foundation is $800 for each month of training, which is $4,000 for the 5 months, billed as 4 payments of $1,000. If you pay in full up front, you save 5%.

When does our 5 months start?

The day your athlete enrolls. Founding families who sign up by October 31 start on November 1.

Can we try it before we commit?

Yes. A trial week costs a quarter of your plan's monthly price, starting at $125. If you enroll within 7 days, that payment counts toward your plan.

Is the price the same at both gyms?

The two gyms charge different rates. The listed prices include Redline Athletics in San Juan Capistrano. If TrainX Wellness in Lake Forest is the better fit for your family, you'll see its price at checkout.

What if my son gets hurt?

With a doctor's note, we pause his plan and extend it by the time he missed.

Can we add the clinic or the mindset call later?

Yes. Both add-ons are month-to-month, so you can add or drop either one any month. The Weekly Clinic add-on is $250 a month for Skill Training athletes, and the Mindset Call is $200 a month.
