Lake Forest · Orange County
Throwdown Academy is an independent study learning center where a homeschool ballplayer's whole day comes together — accredited coursework through iLEAD alongside serious baseball development with Bat & Root, in one intentional rhythm. A modern rite of passage for Orange County student-athletes.
The academic side runs through iLEAD — a tuition-free California public charter school for personalized independent study. Each family is paired with a credentialed Educational Facilitator, and students move at their own pace. Bat & Root builds the day around that work: a focused environment, coaching, mentorship, and standards that turn a routine into a discipline.
Study sessions and training are held at Train-X Wellness in Lake Forest — a sport-performance and wellness facility where the morning's coursework and the work on the floor belong to the same purpose.
We do not ask a young athlete to choose between the mind and the body. We build a place where both get the work they deserve, on the same morning.— Coach Jorge
Throwdown Academy is a partnership. Each piece does what it does best — an accredited charter school, a coaching program, and a training facility — so families get a fully accredited education through iLEAD and real baseball development from Bat & Root, under one roof.
A WASC-accredited California public charter school for personalized independent study — the school of record for every family. Visit Train-X →Throwdown gives student-athletes what the kitchen table can't: a focused space, a daily routine, and adults who hold the standard. Their accredited coursework and credentialed teacher come through iLEAD's independent-study program — we provide the environment and the support that helps them actually get it done, then get to work.
On the Train-X floor, players build the body the game demands — strength, speed, mobility, and the movement mechanics of a complete ballplayer. Coaching from Bat & Root turns each session into deliberate practice, not just a workout.
The through-line of everything at Throwdown is the mind. Breathwork, focus, and composure are taught beside the squat and the swing. Students learn to set goals, hold a standard, and carry themselves with presence — on the field and long after they leave it.
